Church at 10:00, Service at 10:30
September 17, 2014 - Dan Foreman
When I was a boy we would always get up early on Christmas morning to open presents under the tree. My brother and I would try to sneak out early but would always get caught and sent back to bed. We would usually get up around 5:00 or 6:00 am to look in our stocking and get out to the tree by 7:00 am. After all the presents were opened and breakfast was done we would get ready to head to my Grandparents for Christmas dinner. Now dinner was usually served between noon and 1:00 pm but we would always arrive at their house between 10:00 and 10:30 am. Why so early? You probably didn’t ask that because my guess is that the same is true at your house or wherever you share Christmas dinner. You don’t just show up for the moment it is to be served, sit down at the table and say, “Let’s do this!” You visit with one another, talk and share. You celebrate the season and enjoy each other’s company. Then, when it is time, the meal is served and as a family you gather around the table to eat this special meal together.
You know, I think that what we do on Sunday mornings is pretty special. Each Sunday we gather to celebrate the risen Lord, Jesus Christ. That he, the Son of God, lived a sinless life, died on the cross so that we could be forgiven of our sins and rose from the dead that we may someday do the same. We worship Him in song, celebrate around the Lord’s table, pray and hear from God’s word. Every Sunday at 10:30 we have this special gathering.
If you are able, why not try to come a little early this week. We’ve just opened the Corner Cafe and will have fresh coffee on when you arrive. Let’s visit, share and fellowship with one another. Let’s catch up and enjoy each other’s company first and then, when it’s time, at 10:30 let’s all go in as a family to worship. It’s something we are calling: Church at 10:00, Service at 10:30. Hope you can make it this Sunday.
See you around 10ish! I’ll have a coffee waiting for you!
